Interprofessional Education (IPE)

Yesterday was the first IPE day held at Western University. Being the first time it was  poorly organized; however, I had a great time and learned a lot about other health related studies.

I was freaking out the day before because I had not been added to a group yet. It was frustrating because I did not know where I was supposed to go until the morning of the event. After I got there things weren’t too bad. I found that my first station wasn’t fully prepared yet but as the day went on things started to become more organized.

I really enjoyed learning about physical therapy, occupational therapy, audiology, and speech language pathology at Elborn College. I enjoyed their presentations and the activities were fun. I also found that these were the areas that I knew the least about but now feel as though I know the most about. I found the audiology presentation interesting and personally applicable to me living with a hearing impaired family member.

Reflecting back on the day I can start to see how all the information I learned will be an asset. Depending on where I end up working as a nutritionist, it is highly probable that I will end up working with people in other areas of health. There is a lot of overlap. At Brescia, one of the stations talked about Family Health Teams, which are groups of different health care professionals that offer a wide range of services. I am interested to further look into some of the things that I learned about.

The day was really long but at the end of the day I learned a lot of valuable information.
