Christine’s Top 5 Places to Study at UWO

For the past 6 weeks, my life has been consumed with midterms, studying for midterms, catching up on readings after a midterms….so I’d say I have gained a LOT of firsthand knowledge and experience studying on UWO campus. There are my favourite studying haunts:

5. 5th Floor of Weldon Library

Weldon is the largest library on camps. The 5th floor is a silent floor that has a reputation on campus for being the quietest place to get work done. Go here for intense study sessions, but don’t bring a bag of chips or “loud” food- someone may hurt you!

4.  Western Student Rec Center

Granted, it’s not a place you would think of studying, but the rec center is big, bright and located right across the street from Brescia. For relaxed study sessions or to put post-workout energy to good use, the bright, airy atmosphere of the gym’s main floor are perfect for doing homework!

3. Laundry Room

Now, before you judge me for listing Brescia’s laundry facilities as my third favourite place to study on campus, hear me out. Where else can you find somewhere so warm and nicely smelling as the laundry room? Add in the soothing sound of the dryers and you’ve got yourself an amazing study spot (Note to my fellow Brescia Residents: I get first dibs!)

2. Taylor Library- Natural Science Building

When I know I’m in for a long study session, I always trek to Taylor. Why? The main reason: no distractions. Not only does Taylor have a silent section, but also has virtually no cell phone reception or wireless internet. While I don’t think this is intentional, it really helps me get away from my biggest distractions- my cell phone and my laptop- and get down to work.

1. Brescia Library

Recently I learned that the adage, “there is no place like home” also applies to libraries. There truly is no other place so close to residence (where I live) to a Starbucks and so bright, open and airy than my “home library”. Best of all, it is super quiet. Although I venture to other places on campus to study, Brescia library will always be my go-to place.

With midterms over, and most of my assessments and assignments due within the next week, the prospect of seeing more than the inside of my favourite libraries is very exciting!

Happy Studying!
