hi, i was just wondering if you know anything about daycare or other help that Bresica offers for their students with children? Also i was wondering how late classes go to, can they run to 10pm? i know they can be from 8:30 am to 12pm or two but how late in the evening do they run?

Great question, Raven! I am looking into the child care issue for you- I have never had to use child care myself, but I know that they have child care services at Western that can be accessed by students.

As for the timing of classes, the earliest I have ever heard of a class starting was 8:30am and latest I have ever heard of a class ending is 10pm. The good news about classes is that for the most part you are able to choose courses that best fit your own schedule. For me, I scheduled all my classes between 10:30am and 4:30pm. While that may not always be possible, there is usually a fair bit of flexibility!

Hi,i was wondering when i can know that i am accepted by Brescia or not and how i can know my documents have any mistakes or not. What do i have to do next after i sent my documents?

Hello! Here is the official word from our Registrar’s Office:

“Once we’ve received an application we review it and send each applicant a letter acknowledging receipt of their application. We then review their applications and send an email to the email address they provided on their application indicating whether or not we require any further documents.

Once we’ve received all their documents they get flagged for assessment and at that time we are able to review their files and offer them acceptance if they are eligible. After documents have been sent in students just need to wait to hear from us.”

Hope that helps! If you have further questions, feel free to email them at brescia@uwo.ca

    Hi!

I was just wondering what life in Brescia rez is like, items to bring and if I should get a single room vs. double room.

    Thanks!

I am not very interested in the idea of an all female Residence. Is it possible to attend Brescia and do a Major in Food and Nutrition but live at Western main rez for the first year?

    Thanks!

Thank you for your question about residence. I understand how important it is for you to feel as comfortable as possible in your living situation- especially for your first year away at university!
Students registered at Brescia live in the Brescia residences, and I can assure you that the new residence opening for September 2013 will be a fantastic place to live! There will be approximately 300 single rooms equipped with queen-sized beds, big closets, and an ensuite bathroom which will be shared with one other person. The marche style dining pavillion will feature several interactive stations serving fresh, locally-sourced, made-to-order dishes.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns about living in Brescia’s residence, as I would be happy to talk more about this exciting new building. You can also visit this website to see pictures and learn more: http://www.brescia.uwo.ca/about/new_residence/index.html

    Hey Anon,
I think you might be able to register in FN through main campus (like guys do who can’t be registered students at Brescia) but still take all the classes and graduate with the same degree. Then you could stay in main campus residences that aren’t all female. Hope this doesn’t come too late!

Hi, I’m from Mexico and I just came across your blog cause I goggled “Tips for nutrition students” So I clicked the link which seemed to be about that and I just could read “Registration may be disabled” I guess I should have a Brescia account or something but I really wanted to read your tips. I also like a lot painting and if you could tell me how you conjugate those parts of your life I would preciate it a lot.
    Thank you! :)

    Hi Athena!

I was thinking of applying to Brescia, but I was wondering if having a residency on the Brescia campus would prevent me from taking classes at the Ivey Business Program? What do you think?

Also, do you know when the LEAD program is happening this year?

    Thanks, Amy

  11. Christine Barnard

    Hi Amy!
Thanks so much for your question about Ivey and Brescia. Students looking to move into the HBA program (Honors Business Administration) degree at the Richard Ivey School of Business can spend their first two years studying any program before beginning the HBA program in Year 3. You would be welcome to take the Business 2257 course in Year 2 at Brescia, which prepares you for Ivey and is open to students across all of the campuses at Western. For more information about the “roadmap” to Ivey HBA, please check out their website at http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/hba/program-road-map/index.htm.

Please stay tuned for more information regarding the LEAD program! You can email me if you have any questions cbarnar4@uwo.ca

    Hi Amy,

Sorry I haven’t gotten back to you, it’s been pretty busy over here. I think you should defintiely apply to Brescia residency! To answer your question, it would not prevent you from taking classes at Ivey, in fact, if you’re interested in foods and nutrition, there is a program being offered next year that amalgamates foods and nutrition with Ivey business. Just something to think about. The LEAD program, as far as I know, is happening in March but let me double check that just to make sure. Again, I’m sorry for the delay in answering you back. Hope to see you here next year.

    Hi Abigail,

I’m so glad you came across the blog! I didn’t know anyone outside of the Brescia community knew about it! As for the registration problems, I think we were undergoing some changes to the website so maybe if you tried again it will be different, if not, let me know and I will talk to the website organizer for you and see about getting the problem fixed.
So you like painting? I am an avid painter myself (mind you I’m not that great at it) and I’m happy that I met someone else with the passion. I try to keep up with it whenever I can. I find that I sketch more than paint at Brescia, but next year I am defintiely remembering to bring my paint supplies. The rooms here are big enough that you can fit a decent sized easel in here. Are you planning on coming to Brescia? If yes than I look forward to meeting you and if not I’m glad you found the site and contacted me. Keep in touch and I’ll look in to getting the website fixed.

Hello, I got into the first year food and nutrition science program and i wanted to know what i need to do to get into the honors specialization in nutrition and dietetics. I understand that i will need to take the courses biology, chemistry, Food and Nutrition, business administration and an elective while getting an average that is over 70%, making sure that none of those courses have marks below 60%. If those are the minimum requirements to get into that program, what standards should i aim for if i want to get into the program?

    Melody

  15. Christine Barnard

    Hi Melody,

Thanks for your inquiry about the Honors Specialization in Nutrition and Dietetics program! It sounds like you’ve done your research, because those are indeed the classes you will need to take in first year. If you are meeting those minimum requirements and you indicate this program on your intent to register which you will complete in February/March of your first year, it is highly likely you will be adjudicated into the program for the following year.

If you have not taken Calculus in grade twelve, it is also recommended that you enroll in Math 0105A (Pre-Calculus) to help with first year Chemistry.

Please let us know if you have any follow-up questions at brescia@uwo.ca
